This is one of the annual sevas in Tirumala which is celebrated in the month of March. Starting from Phalguna Ekadasi to Phalguna Pournami, our epic gods are taken on a pleasure ride in the water.
Teppotsavam means a celestial ride on boat in the water. The last month in the Telugu calendar (Phalguna Masam) is considered as auspicious for this Annual seva.
The first day of the Utsavam starts with a celestial ride of Lord Rama along with Goddess Seetha and Lakshmana in Swami Pushkarini. And the second day ride is offered to Lord Sri Krishna along with his wife Goddess Rukmini. The remaining three days from Trayodasi to Poornima are reserved for Sri Malayappa Swamy along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi.
Swami Pushkarini is decorated with brilliant lights and the boat deck is decorated with beautiful flowers and garlands along with the lamps. Pooja is offered to the deities throughout the ride. Every day the deities are taken for three rounds in the temple tank. But on the final day, that is on Phaluguna Poornima , Sri Malayappa swami along with Sridevi and Bhudevi are taken out for a special ride for seven rounds. On this particular day special charms are added to the boat deck. Along with the main temple, the Mada streets are also decorated with radiant lights. The full moon is an added attraction to the divine beauty of the deities.
